On February 3, 2022, Mayor John Moore of Williams officially designated the day as Four Chaplains Day. A day to be observed as a Religions Emphasis Day, calling upon all citizens to commemorate this day with appropriate observances.

February 3 marks the anniversary of the sinking of the troopship Dorchester, which carried to the deaths four U.S. Army Chaplains of three faiths who stood united in prayer as the ship sank. These four chaplains gave their life jackets to four soldiers and thus sacrificed their own lives to save the lives or others.

What a great day for celebration and remembrance in Williams. Thank you Mayor Moore for helping to commemorate such a heroic day.
